The UP Manila Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research participated in the 2024 FuturesPhil Conference, held at the Manila Prince Hotel from August 22-24, 2024. This year's theme, "Toward Sustainable Development, Innovation, and Futures Thinking," emphasized the importance of these approaches in shaping resilient futures.
The three-day conference served as a dynamic platform for discussing strategies in policy reforms, particularly those focused on sustainable and resilient development. It brought together scholars, practitioners, and students in the field of futures thinking and foresight.
The event was attended by Vice Chancellor for Research, Dr. Leslie Michelle M. Dalmacio, along with the staff of the UP Manila Futures Thinking Initiative Project. Keynote speakers included Dr. Alex B. Brillantes, Professor Emeritus of UP Diliman, and Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian, both Senior Fellows of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society.
Active participation from various institutions contributed to the success of the event. Attendees presented research on futures thinking, sustainable development, and innovation. They also networked, led workshops, and participated in discussions that expanded their knowledge and sparked new ideas, driving the conversation on sustainable and resilient futures forward.
The Philippine Futures Thinking Society (PhilFutures) is a professional organization for foresight and futures thinking professionals in the country provides strategic handles and direction towards igniting the Filipino Hiraya through the power of foresight as it aims to advance and democratize futures thinking through education, training, research, and advocacy.
